Tory DeFazio opened the program with a Salute to Bill Nutting which included the presentation of a Major Donor/ Benefactor posthumously to former member, Bill Nutting. Bill generously donated $20,000 to The Rotary Foundation through his estate. Ralph Hammond followed with explanations about The Rotary Foundation’s Major Donor/ Bequest Society and Benefactor categories. He called it a “family honor.” Hammond gave many examples from his experience as Grants Chair for the District. These included his own literacy project in Nepal (through Bedford Rotary) and the WPI Guatemala water harvesting project. There have been 643 grants since 1997 totaling over $6 million. Wellesley has a share of that with 14 grants totaling $151K from $36K locally generated.
