WHS Exchange Student Maria Qaiser from Pakistan

Maria Qaiser is an exchange student from Karachi, Pakistan and in the 10th grade at Wellesley High School.  She is a recipient of the YES Scholarship Program, and is hosted by a local family through AFS.

Maria has a variety of interests including journalism, astronomy, acting, art, and international relations.  She is very outgoing and has tried many new things since she arrived in Wellesley this August.  Maria learned how to ride a bike and has made progress in swimming.  She also had the opportunity to see snowfall for the first time, and went skiing on a recent trip to Colorado to visit her host-grandmother and host-aunt.  Maria is now looking forward to experiencing a real winter in Massachusetts.

Maria also enjoys cooking different Pakistani dishes and loves to share her culture with her host family, friends, and community.  She made several presentations about Pakistan during International Education Week at Wellesley High School, and is available for other presentations in the community. Maria is an outstanding cultural ambassador for Pakistan.

The Rotary Club of Wellesley is one of Wellesley’s oldest community service groups and conducts local programs to benefit the Town of Wellesley.  The public is always invited to any Rotary program.
