A good crowd of over thirty showed for
our monthly meeting at the Wellesley
College Club. We welcomed PDG
Ralph Hammond and Linda Cargiuolo
from the Bedford Rotary Club;
Betsy Seeley, a guest of Andrea Kaiser;
three Rotaractors from Babson
College, Kali Diamond, Bernard Moreno
and Josh Boutin; two Spanish
teachers from Wellesley High School,
Luz Barrientos and Shannon O’Neill,
and others from the Wellesley Interact
Club, the WHS Spanish Club and the
town. We had a moment of silence for
Rotarian Fred Garmon. President
Mitch Freeman led off with Bob Anthony
who gave us an update on the
Adolescent Wellness project (two workshops
completed and one to go). Andrea
Kaiser introduced the Spanish
Club representatives and her friends,
Rosi and Brian Amador, part of the
Sol y Canto sextet. They are going to
be featured at our fundraiser on May
16, 2015 at the high school. As a group
they hail from all over Latin America
and are known for their “pan-Latin”
style of music. For twenty
years they have developed a following in what
might be call Latin jazz. Their music is geared to
all ages and they showed that with a sample of
their repertoire: Opus One, La Fiesta del Tren,
Cajon (box) and ended with Buen Camino; a love
song, La Luna, Las Estrellas and a lively Banana
song. There was much discussion with the audience
about how to promote and advertise the upcoming
fundraising concert, how to stir high interest
in order to sell tickets...enough to sell out the
high school auditorium. On line promotion, point
of sales locations, posters and other publicity will
all play a part. Everyone needs to support, participate
and promote the concert, to sell tickets, to
make it a great success. Everyone agreed that “it’s
a cultural thing...and music is its language.”
